Another puzzle for you

Holden goes in to daycare an hour late on Tuesdays, and Maryl with her brand re-newed license took the car in early. The idea was to let Holden (and me!) snooze a little more past the normal 7:30-8:00am waking time, and she'd come back for a coffee break to take him in. Well of course 5 minutes after she left Holden woke up.

I don't really miss sleep as much as I thought I would.

After morning bath, instead of running around getting ready, I put on Willy Wonka (newly rented) for us to watch 20 minutes of. Skipped to the factory part, because what 3 year old wants to see anything else? He of course loved it, and we all love Gene Wilder singing Pure Imagination. He's brilliant. Sorry Depp.

We got to the part where Violet eats the gum and turned into a giant blueberry, when it was time to get up and eat breakfast. He pretended he was eating the flower knitting on our sheets, and I said, "Oh, are you eating the blueberries? You'll get plumped up big and blue!" I was about to explain I was joking, when I got a call from Maryl just to let me know her schedule. During the call, Holden was frantically trying to get my attention saying, "I didn't eat the blueberry, I didn't eat the blueberry, Harry, Harry, Harry, Harry, I didn't eat the blueberry I didn't didn't didn't eat the blueberry." I tried to hush him while getting info from Maryl - it was a quick call and she had to go.

He opened up his mouth but I said, “Yes, yes, I know I heard you, you didn't eat the blueberry, it's ok!” All the way to the kitchen, he kept telling me how he didn't eat the blueberry and he didn't want to get rolled away. I laughed happily and explained to him it was just a movie, that it wasn't real, and that he only pretended to eat a blueberry and that he wouldn't get rolled away, I promise.

Breakfast was cheerios, in a cute little cup. He usually likes to run around and play with toys if I'm not giving him absolute attention during eating time. I was doing dishes, watching him eat and squirm a bit, and I started to sing absent-mindedly the oompa-loompa song which was stuck in my head. He looked up at me and said worriedly, "Don't roll me away Harry, I'm eating my cereal like a good boy." I didn't know what to do but smile - I had already explained to him it wasn't real, so I thought he was just playing. Thus, I said, "O-K Holden, if you eat your cereal like a good boy, you won't get big and blue and have to be rolled away."

I have never, ever seen him eat more quietly or quickly.

It was evil, pure evil, and I knew it then and there that I may have unwittingly scarred the poor boy for life! Will he grow up fearing ever eating a blueberry again??? Will he question each meal, making sure there wasn't something terrible in it that would make him blow up like a big blue balloon and have to have little orange men roll him away to get "juiced"?

Hehehhe! Too funny. It was all fine and dandy 5 minutes later, he had already forgotten and all was well. But we were running late to get him to school, and he wanted to run around and not get his shoes on. After a couple minutes of calmly trying to explain to him why we have to go and that it's not time to run around and that it's time to listen... I said... "Holden! If you don't get your shoes on, the Oompa-Loompas will roll you away!" He skittered to the door and quickly put his shoes on!

I'm terrible! Good thing Maryl was there, she laughed and tussled his hair and said, "Holden, we'd never let any Oompa-loompas roll you away, ever, ever, right Harry?" And I said, "Well... if he's a Reeeeeeeeeeeeeally bad boy... maaaaaaaybe...." and she said with a laugh, "No! Not even then! Not ever, ever, ever."

This of course made Holden very happy... but now how in the world will I ever get him to get his shoes on?
