Sun in the Fun

So So So So Saturday came and saturday went, and along the way I need to vent, about a man, a plan, a place to go, a place I went called Farmo's Co. Word.

Farmer's market I mean. The fun thing about Farmer's Markets is that you get to buy fresh fruit at ridiculous prices. OR! That's what I've grown up believing!!! But here, HERE, they sell fruits and veggies at LESS than supermarket prices! I know! It's incredible. We picked up a giant box of delicious... delicious... actually delicious apples. I haven't enjoyed an apple in eons. Gross waxy crappas at safeway haven't cut it in forever and ever. Anyway! Apples, yes, and a bunch of carrots, yum, and something called maple butter? You betcha! Maryl made apple crisps with a lot of them. Apple crisps with delicious ida red apples... and some quality vanilla ice cream... goodness gracious!

Later that day we dug up a hole in our backyard. The idea was to put some sort of plant or herb variety in it. But after 3 hours of pulling up rocks and weird grubs, we decided to put the plants or herbs in next week - but at least the ground is ready!

Sunday, muddy Sunday:
Sunday is a fun day but today it was not so funday!

The day started out marvelously beautiful, with a happy sun shining down, creating warmths and goodies for all around. Thus we embarked encouraged and enlightened towards our Sunday Funday goal - Jungle Cat World. You'd think there'd be lions and tigers and leopards, and you'd be right! But by the time we got there it was so stinky-fresh cold, we were saddened. And on top of! Very pricy admission! But the Worst! It was so so tiny! It looked so rickety! few cages of sad, dying, cold animals does not constitute a "world" of jungle cats. All of this is hyperbole parable, because we didn't actually go inside. We just sat in the parking lot, forlorn, a little cold, and sad to have driven so far to such a crummy goal. But then!

Then the idea was to perhaps drive another hour to go visit her pop! So we did! A delicious picnic was had in the cold weather, which eventually picked up a bit. There were frisbees and soccer balls and baseballs and bochi balls(!) and some beanbag game where you try to get the beanbags in a hole. It was fun for the whole family, and extras, since extended family were there as well. It was only mostly slightly awkward, but more and more I am becoming accepted. It feels so wonderful to not feel like I parachuted into enemy territory anymore!

Sunday was also something called V-day, which I think meant Victoria Day. Not Victory Day though, this has to do with Queen Victoria. Thus there were fireworks. Or maybe it was Sunday not Saturday... yeah it was Saturday... anyway, Sunday was sparklers... Holden loved them! He wanted to set everything on fire with them - and how can you say no to a three year old? <3 <3 <3

Monday was very exciting - we took Holden on a canoe trip in the morning! He liked it the first 5 minutes, but the cried for the next 20 because he was so scared of falling in the lake. So sad. I eventually gave him an apple to munch on and that brightened everything up. We saw... a turtle! And... a hawk, flapping to a standstill, searching, searching... swooping, swooping, catching a fish! Oh! And this one is for Ben. We got out to the far side of the lake, and we thought we saw some fish jumping - it was entirely too exciting. Feeding time? So we investigated. Upon closer inspection, we saw that there were two fish, jumping up on the surface together? Odd. But then.. over there, and there, and there! We saw up to 10 groups of these fish, they were between 2 and four feet long, and there would be about 3-5 of the fish in a group, and they'd roll around each other near the surface of the water, agitated in a frenzy, then splash, gone away for a bit. It was very, very odd. Fish don't mate, right? And they didn't seem to be eating much. Were they fighting? Fighting fish? Fighting for being king of the fishies? Any help here Ben?

Quite a weekend though. Not even any time for video games! Le Gasp! :P
