Canada freaks me out! They are the worst, ever. Everything here is terrible, but really only because of one terrible, terrible secret reason.
Let me sing a little song for you.
A B C D E F G
H I J K LMNO P
Q R S
T U V
W X
Y AND.... ZED!
Zed?!? Zed! It's zed?! It's zed. Not Zee, not at all, it's zed. But it doesn't RHYME! I'm listening to Holden's toy centipede sing the alphabet song. And it's zed at the end. And they're looking at me like I'm crazy, saying, Zee? Zee? No, it's zed!
My world is crumbling before my eyes! The song! It's on repeat! Holden is looking at me and he's TURNING UP THE VOLUME! His eyes are so accusing! They're looking at me, as if to say, what is wrong, harry, is there something wrong with the song? Are you sad, harry? Let me turn it up more, I don't understand the problem, harry. Those are what his terribly canadianly accusing eyes are saying, as he sings along and happily says Zed. So, what, do they do that in England too? Maybe Australia? All well and dandy, but you can't sing the alphabet song that way! It doesn't work!!!

They say Zed in South Africa...I do know that. America is probably the only place that says Zee :)

There was this British band called "Vitamin Z" some years ago. In England/Canada/South Africa, the first syllable of vitamin is pronounced so that it rhymes with "hit." And the Z is pronounced Zed of course. When they started having a couple of songs played in America, they wanted their band name pronounced the same way it is in their native country, "Vit-a-min Zed." But here everyone just called them "Vigh-ta-min Zee." Not sure why I bring this up.
