Sauce overload

Today we went over to "Nona's", which is Maryl's mum. There we enjoyed a nice swim to get out of the heat, although, Holden wasn't so much keen on swimming. There is something very unsettling about getting your bum wet with cold water, don't I know it! Thankfully, he eventually warmed up to the prospect and was OK with floating around the shallow end being held by Nona.

For dinner, Maryl and I went out and bought three stacks of ribs and some chicken legs, along with two bottles of bbq sauce. One was used to cook up dinner. Literally, a full bottle of bbq sauce for 5 and a half people, while the other was set at the table for color. That's all I ask for in this world. Two bbq sauces on every table and 3 ribstacks in every grillpot.

I've never cooked ribs before on the grill - I had it once as a birthday treat at Rob's house, but he did the cooking and I did the eating, and then he did some eating too, and then some more for me, along with extra dippings saucings and drippings. These here actually turned out pretty dang good, and I owe it all to my sous-chef Maryl, who really did most of it but let me paint it with sauce. Her mum and two sisters were semi-impressed with my corn technique, but it's hard to go wrong with lots of butter, salt, and warmed up corn.

Completely unrelated, I was talking to my landlady tonight, and I joked about how we had a crack house on our street, just 8 houses down. She then let me in on a secret - it really WAS a crack house, and the policemen knew all about it (I've seen cops there often enough, it’s true), and they let it stay there apparently so they can better keep track of all the crack dealers and activity in this town. Right down the street!

And they seem like such friendly people too!
