We went bowling! Bowling here is very scary. Very different - sort of like when you ask for bacon on your burger but instead you get a cut up sausage. It's not BAD, it's just like, what the heck? Why is this happening?
What's nice is it's ridiculously cheap - could just be the town, but who knows. 1-2$ for shoes, and then it's like $2.50/game/person. For the three of us for an hour we got out with under $10. So that's nice.
But let me explain with pictures!
Holden and Maryl
Notice something odd? Yeah, it's a tiny ball. Because it's for kids, right? Neat idea!
Little cute bowling balls, to be sure. But check this out.
Not sure if you can see - but there's just 5 pins up. No, he didn't knock just 5 down. They only have 5 pins up here in Canada! Alright, so sometimes they have 10, but they also have 5, and maybe they have 5 in other places too, but this is the first time I've seen it and thus, I blame canada for it. I thought it was just for kids, but half the alley was set up this way. 5 pins! What's the deal? I guess it's nice to not have to lug big heavy bowling balls around if you're young or old or frail (like me?), and thus with smaller balls you want less pins and it's more of a game of accuracy... but really, most of the fun is seeing all the pins bounce into each other. Much more satisfying to hit down 8 than 3!
However, this was fun enough, and of course only because of Holden.
Thanks for this picture, Maryl...
This is how I learned how to bowl, so I figured I might as well pass on the wisdom! :P
He's pretty good, actually. Darn well almost beat me. In my defense we did have the bumpers up.. yah..
Maryl has a very, very, very nice form! <3 <3
Holden's favorite part was seeing the balls roll all the way back and clunk into each other, waiting to get thrown again.
All in all, a grand success, even though it took me half the game to realize you get THREE throws instead of TWO. Who comes up with this stuff?
