I think the best thing in this world, food wise, has just been consumed. I'm sorry that there's no more of it. Sorry not for the world, but for me; I am sorry for myself because it is no more. I have many doubts that it can ever be recreated.
It all started when Maryl asked what we should do for dinner. I regaled her with heroic stories of my bachelorhood, where I would take pasta (best if day-old), and stick it in quesadillas warmed up with extra cheese. I don't think she was quite sold on it, and asked if there was anything /else/ I could think of. So I wracked my memory and my past and I said to myself, you know what I enjoyed once upon a time? Baked pasta. It's so simple it had to work!
But Maryl added her special twists to it. She mixed regular, spicy pasta sauce along with some sort of masterful cheese sauce creation. I don't know if people have done this before, it seems probable, but I've just never seen it in my life before. Two types of pasta sauces, together at last! Cheese and Tomato, put on noodles, with a healthy helping of sliced cheddar to layer the top... and baked for thirty minutes.
It was sublime. Please try it, but also, know, that your mouth will want so much that your belly will grow and grow, with happiness.
