So here's something new. It's so cold here that I have to be careful how I exit my vehicle. What happens is, due to the warmth of the heater and driving around, if I open and close the door too quickly, something odd happens. All the condensation in the air inside the car freezes against all the windows. It makes it extremely difficult to get started in the morning, because I can scrape off the ice on the outside but the ice on the inside needs to be melted away with a cumbersome and lengthy defrosting. I've been able mitigate this strangeness by making sure to keep the door open long enough for all the warm air inside to dissipate, and equalize with the outside temperature before enclosing.
I'm becoming a very competent ice-driver. Maybe it's years of mario kart and driving games teaching me how to react to fishtailing... at 150 mph sure but the technique is the same. You can't go too fast and you can't go too slow and using your brakes is a death sentence. Just yesterday I avoided 3 fatal accidents with other drivers, one of whom was a giant pickup truck with a snowplow of death attached to its front. I can also get in and out of our icy driveway's slope in less than three attempts!
Holden and Maryl hate winter, with such ferocity that it boarders on ubercute. Any time it is mentioned to Holden that we must leave our warm seclusion to brave the frosty world, he gets despondent. Only promises of Mario Galaxy can coax him to get the gumption up to wear his snowcoat, snowboats, touque, scarf, mittens...
In the dead of winter, which has passed, Holden would daily ask me what it's like in California where there's no snow. I kept reminding him that there's plenty of snow in California, not just where I grew up. I don't think he believed me. In his mind, California is some magical place that never gets cold, and it excites him to no end. Me as well, me as well.
All in due time.

Canadians that hate winter? I didn't think that was possible.

You just need to fill your car with a whole mess of those silica gel packets.
