Speaking of kidneys

Today's a day for drinking, so we have squirreled away one beer in the freezer to split. Yes we are going all out tonight!

There was a crawling, frozen parade down the town's mainstreet today. We froze into snowmen but floats? We saw them. Bagpipes? We heard them! People dressed in green? You betcha.

I had a really strange conversation with my mum last night. She called me up to talk about this and that, and at the end was letting me know that they found a small bit of cancer in her kidney. Oh, just fyi in care you were curious Harry. What? Oh no it's fine they'll take another test in 6 months.

I suppose that doesn't sound so bad but it was pretty out of the blue. And THEN, and then she goes on to tell me that she hopes it won't have to be removed like her other one. Excuse me? She tells me that when all my brothers were kids and when they were living in Pennsylvania, she had a cancer in her other kidney and they had to remove it.

Show of hands, who here asks their parents, Say mum, do you happen to have all of your organs? Why it's funny you ask!

Then again she could just be so whacked out at this point that she's making up stories she overhears on tv. Oh yeah... it's been rough ever since my kidney enveloped a cancer, had to get it removed. Don't you remember Harry? You were the donor - haven't you ever wondered about that scar on your side?

No, it's true, she had one kidney removed when I was seven or so. She always told us on our organ donor cards to make note that if we were to get decapitated in a car accident to make sure that our kidneys are earmarked (kidney-marked?) for her.

Crabby:

I know I missed out on some family vacations but I didn't know I missed out on family organ replacement discussions!

Lacy Tree:

It caught me by surprise too when I found out. My mom told me last summer when I had a kidney stone.

So much stuff you missed out on, not being born in the '60s or '70s!
